This program grows out of Christoph Urbanetz’s long engagement with the music of Marin Marais: his doctoral research on handwritten performance markings in Marais sources, and the publication of two volumes devoted to this repertoire and its hidden language. Together with lutenist David Bergmüller, he brings this knowledge into performance, exploring Marais not as a distant historical figure, but as a composer of extraordinary refinement, intimacy and dramatic imagination. Alongside masterpieces from the Pièces de viole, the program includes rare and only recently published material, offering a more private and nuanced view of one of the great voices of the French Baroque.
